Akela Pharma , a drug delivery company, was created as a pre-clinical specialized contract research firm providing drug development services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. On May 9, 2002 the Company went public and was renamed LAB International Inc. In January 2004, LAB acquired 100% of the outstanding shares of Focus Inhalation Oy in Turku, a Finnish company formed as a spin-off of Schering AG and specializing in the development of inhalation delivery systems and therapeutics. In January 2007, LAB announced the closing of the acquisition of all of the outstanding membership interests of PharmaForm L.L.C., a privately held company headquartered in Austin, Texas. In July 2007, the company changed its name to Akela Pharma Inc. In 2009, Akela Pharma merged with Nventa Biopharmaceuticals Corp, a company developing innovative therapeutics incorporating its proprietary CoVal(TM) fusions for the treatment of viral infections and cancers, with a focus on diseases caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV); and a Toll-like Receptor 3 (TLR3) agonist for use as a vaccine adjuvant and as an immunotherapeutic for viral infections and cancer. The new public company kept Akela’s name.
