Bacterin International was founded in 1997 based around expertise gained from the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE) at Montana State University. Revenues for Bacterin come from licensing agreements grants, private placements, and Bacterin product manufacturing, sales, and distribution. Its anti-infective coating for medical devices prevents microbial (biofilm) formation and growth thus significantly reducing infection rates associated with these devices. Its proprietary bioactive coating can be applied to medical products to release a limitless array of bioactive molecules: anti-inflammatory, pain-control, antithrombotic, antimicrobial and other suitable drugs for medical applications. Bacterin also develops innovative biologic products for transplantation.
