Bernina Biosystems was founded in early 1999. Bernina completed its second financing round in May 2001. As of May 2002, Bernina Biosystems moved back to Martinsried, Munich from Tutzing. Bernina Biosystems' goal is to develop liposomal drug and gene delivery systems using its A-fect technology that: target specific cells or organs, increase the therapeutic efficacy of drugs, and facilitate alternative routes of application, particularly the topical and oral route.
