Biocoat, Inc. develops and licenses biomaterial coatings for medical devices that are custom engineered to meet client design parameters. Its specialty is supplying lubricious hydrophilic coatings for medical devices. Biocoat acquires biomaterials technologies through internal development, funding scientific and applied research at academic research facilities, joint development projects with other companies, cooperative research with academic researchers, and by acquiring the rights to intellectual property. The Biocoat technology for immobilizing hyaluronan and other biopolymers has its origins in work done by Ellington M. Beavers, Ph. D. and his co-workers at Columbia University in the early 80's.
