The Biological Test Center serves the pharmaceutical and medical device industries with contract laboratory testing since 1980. The BTC has more than 32,000 square feet of AAALAC-accredited, state-of-the-art facilities in Irvine, California to handle virtually any size or type of in vivo study. The facilities also include HEPA-filtered surgical suites to support model development. In addition, the BTC has extensive laboratories to provide analytical chemistry and microbiology support for toxicology and metabolism studies.. The BTC offers a variety of programs and services, all of which are EPA, USDA, and FDA approved. Its services include: Biocompatibility testing---USP, NF, ISO 10993, FDA OD G95-1, Endotoxin---Pyrogen/LAL testing; Surgery laboratory---HEPA filtered air, EKG, ultrasound, radiography, operating microscope, fluoroscopy---Surgical models, studies, and training; Microbiology testing---Sterility, bioburden, B&F, microbial ID, preservative effectiveness, package integrity, and special studies; Particulate matter testing---Electronic and microscopic methods (HIAC), particulate ID; Ophthalmology---In-vivo studies, surgical evaluations, slit-lamp and fundus examinations, neurodiagnostics, ERG, VEP, specular microscopy, pharmacokinetics, model development; Toxicology---Acute, sub-acute; IV, oral, dermal, topical; Pharmacokinetics and Metabolism---In-vivo studies, sample preparation, combustion, counting;Drug Discovery--Tests for anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, pain and inflammation, learning and memory, attention deficits, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, drug dependence and withdrawal; Safety Pharmacology--Core battery testing of the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, and respiratory system plus supplemental (Tier II) testing.
