Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical was founded in the mid-19th century under the name of Komatsuya. Hisamitsu has a strong focus on development of topical/transdermal pain products for the prescription and OTC markets. Hisamitsu acquired the ethical pharmaceuticals business of SSP Co. Ltd. in April 2005 and Noven Pharmaceuticals in August 2009.
