Oculis Inc. was founded in 2003 by Einar Stefánsson and Thorsteinn Loftsson. Previously the founders, in collaboration with Icelandic Pharmaceuticals, operated and directed an R&D company called Cyclops Inc, founded in 1994, that specialized in cyclodextrin based drug delivery including drug delivery to the eye. Oculis applies its drug delivery know-how together with unique instrumentation and analytical methods to develop novel ophthalmic drugs and drug delivery systems, especially for treatment of disorders affecting the posterior segment of the eye.
